Residents of Inglewood have a new flavor in town. Corrie Scully and Renie Schoenkerman opened their new cafe and bar MiddleBar, on December 5th, at 129 N Market St, Inglewood, CA 90301. To complete their vision and develop the original concept, Corrie and Renie worked for nearly three years. Throughout the space they blend traditional New Orleans jazz flavor with a modern twist. With their cutting-edge design, Scully and Renie stimulate and awaken the senses.
Known for their award winning Bloody Mary and line of Farm Fresh Cocktail mixers, Corrie and Renie (pictured below) have evolved MiddleBar from dinner and drinks with friends in the middle room of their house, into full fledge library bar everyone can enjoy.
“I grew up in Los Angeles, so we were looking all over town for a location to mass produce our cocktail mixers. We saw a place in Silver Lake and Boyle Heights, but when we found this place in Inglewood, we fell in love,” Said Renie. Originally we weren’t looking to open a bar, the city actually approached us, and asked us to open a place where people could dine. “We signed our lease in 2014 before the stadiums, the teams and the Metro. We didn’t have any idea what we were coming into. We just thought this was a cute street in a wonderful neighborhood.”
“We started cooking and cocktailing for our friends years ago, and as a joke they named our house MiddleBar, and it just started from there,” said Renie. “We used to have house parties all the time and people would ask to come over to MiddleBar, not our house, but can we come over to MiddleBar. So, years later when we formed the company, obviously the name had to be MiddleBar.”
The bar’s gorgeous design and warm atmosphere features bar top seating on one side and a family style dining table that seats up to 14 people, as well as relaxing patio seating out front. To add to the New Orleans influenced décor, there is a shoe shine station and hand painted floor that covers the floors. And just as in the “Big Easy”, music is a major part of Middlebar. The corner stage with open mic and guest DJ’s keep it live. The walls are lined with revolutionary artists like Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong and Nina Simone and good music is always playing.
MiddleBar, located at 129 N Market Street, offers live jazz music every Sunday and a mouth-watering brunch menu. Specialties include Sunday Brunch, house cured lox, pulled pork eggs Benedict grits and grillades.
